Introduction:

Cricket is a bat and ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a  22-yard pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. This game is being played on cricket field.

History
 
Cricket has originated in the middle of 16th century at south-east England. It spread worldwide with the expansion of British empire. The government body of the game is International Cricket Council (ICC), which has over 100 members, twelve of which are full members who play Test matches.

Types of games:
There are three international mode of cricket. The highest standard is Test cricket which is in effect the international version of first-class cricket. Second is One day international and third is twenty-twenty match.

International Competition:
The ICC also organises competitions that are for several countries at including the Cricket World Cup, ICC T20 World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy. The ICC World Test Championship is being played as a part of normal tours for test match as a league competition.

Cricket in India: 
Cricket is very popular game in India as is played almost everywhere.The Indian national cricket team won the 1983 Cricket World Cup, the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, the 2011 Cricket World Cup, the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. Indian national cricket also shared the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy with Sri Lanka. The 2023 Cricket World Cup will be hosted by India.

Culture: 
Cricket has had a deep impact on popular culture, both in the Commonwealth of Nations as well as elsewhere.
